Do you love the city? Could you see yourself serving in the city teaching children or youth in Chicago Public Schools? This trip is designed to help each student answer these questions. Experience the culture of Chicago Public Elementary Schools (K-8) with a variety of ethnic backgrounds. You will visit the schools, meet the staff, and observe and assist in the classrooms. In addition, we will worship with Willow Chicago a multi-cultural urban church with a heart to serve the urban center of Chicago. Enjoy the site and sounds that the bustling city affords. Chicago needs servant leaders. Get a REAL look and see if God is calling you to the windy city.

This WOE3 trip will be a 9-day concert tour for the LCU Chorale. We will be traveling during Spring Break, leaving on Saturday, March 5 and returning home late Sunday night, March13. We will be presenting music and drama programs in churches in Illinois, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. We will be housed in people's homes from the churches. The trip will include a free day at a Florida theme park. Students who wish to participate in this tour and another WOE3 trip are financially responsible for both trips. Participation is Chorale during the Spring semester is required for students who wish to participate in this tour.

Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch is an 1100 acre "kid'n cattle" ranch and school located in Western Montana, about 100 miles south of Glacier National Park. Since 1976, the staff of Pinehaven have been successfully caring for children who need an alternate living situation. The kids who are accepted at Pinehaven range from any age up through high school, and they come from all over the country. Usually, the child is getting away from a broken home, defiant, under-motivated in school, and running with the wrong crowd. Few of them have any spiritual values at all. Pinehaven, truly is a "haven" for these children. It provides them with a safe environment that is free from the dangers and temptations of life that were previously dragging them down. This trip to Pinehaven will provide LCU students with the opportunity to serve and minister in a variety of ways. In addition to spending time with the children of the ranch and ministering to the awesome staff, manual labor around the ranch will be a large part of the service for the week. And this service can also present itself in many different forms (from rounding up cattle and horses to working with your hands on the construction of a new building). Pinehaven is a wonderful, Christian place that you will not soon forget after your trip there is over.

This trip to Haiti will focus on ministry to the Haitian people. Students will be able get to experience the work of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission at a medical clinic, birthing center, baby orphanage, or an elderly home. Students will also help with VBS/Sports camp with local children. There will also be time for a trip to Tortuga to put on a VBS/Sports camp for the people of that island.

The offices and warehouse of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission are moving to Indianapolis this October. As a result, there is a lot of work to be done. This trip will primarily consist of learning the functions of the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission offices and warehouse. Students will spend several days in the warehouse helping pack supplies to be sent to Haiti. Students will also have the opportunity to work in the community of Indianapolis to raise awareness and support for the mission. Students will also be part of a food packing event to provide meals for 40,000 people in Haiti!

A time of Spiritual Retreat structured around the monastic tradition of prayer and contemplation coupled with a day of work at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Students observe the Daily Divine Prayer Offices and share in meals with the monastic community at Holy Cross in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago.

Freshmen students signed up for EC 251 Early childhood Practicum 1 may sign up for this experience. This trip includes a preprimary field placement, which involves observation, planning, teaching, collaboration, and reflection of the learning environment. Typically, this trip is done locally but as required for the class. Thirty-five (35) clock hours in an Early Childhood setting(s) a minimum of 25 hours with Infants and Toddlers are required in an assigned location(s).

Typically, this trip is done locally but as required for the class. This trip is for freshmen or transfer students in the AAE/UTEP elementary education program who will be taking ED 141-Intro to Educational Practice in the spring semester. Students will complete 70 hours of field experiences in the diverse setting of the public schools in Decatur, IL. Students must have permission to sign up for this Week of E3 by Dr. Karen Estep and will be placed according to interests and availability of classes. This trip serves the purpose of credit, service learning and Week of E3 credit.

We will travel by bus to the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. This will be a week of study and spiritual formation based around Kierkegaard's writings. This should be of primary interest for those who have taken (or plan to take in the Spring) the Kierkegaard class.

This trip will provide opportunities to encourage and to serve the needs of the elderly in ten different nursing home facilities within an hour-and-one-half radius of Lincoln. An attempt will be made to create times of interaction with the nursing home residents through one-on-one visitation, and the presentation of a program of devotion, music, and skits. Musical ability is preferred, but is not a requirement.

Students will help Lincoln Christian Church prepare for upcoming Children's Church events under the leadership of Marcia Wells. Students will have the opportunity to prepare for Maundy Thursday and Easter services at Lincoln Christian Church as well as help paint the Children's Ministry area.

For the duration of the Week of E3 fast each day from midnight to 3:00 pm. Walk each day while praying for different buildings/streets in Lincoln. Must be able to fast and walk.

Little Galilee is primarily a service trip to help clean and prepare the camp for summer. If you like physical labor and good food, we're the trip for you! If you're interested in learning what it takes to run a Christian Camp, then come join us.

This group will work with the Lincoln YMCA. Ministry will include tutoring and mentoring with grade school students. Special activities with teens will be coordinated and directed by the group. We are looking for students that have a passion for working with children and teens.

How does a person balance providing for "free exercise of religion" without "establishing religion?" All commanders are responsible for providing for the free exercise rights of their service members but it's the Chaplain who executes the commander's responsibility. Providing for the religious needs of all people requires a unique calling and special training. Serving in the U.S. Military has a long and noble tradition. Lincoln Christian University supports our troops and encourages our students to become faithful leaders in the U.S. Armed Forces if so called. This trip is primarily designed to expose and inspire a young men or women to choose a career as a U.S. military Chaplain by allowing him or her to live the military life for a week and gain first hand, inside knowledge as to how the military works, how a Chaplain is selected and how the military Chaplaincy serves the Kingdom and country. Secondly, the trip will accept students that are interested in the military as a career in general. The trip will begin with a long drive to Ft. Jackson, SC to the Armed Forces Chaplains Center, the co-located Chaplain schools for the Army, Navy and Air Force. We will learn all we can about the Chaplaincy and Army life at Ft. Jackson, the largest basic training post in the Army. From Ft. Jackson we plan to visit Langley AFB for exposure to the U.S. Air Force and then on to Chaplain Dennis Young, an LCU Alumnus, to experience the sea faring services of the Coast Guard, Navy and Marines.

We will be driving to the White Earth Indian Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. We will be working with the children on the reservation in the afternoon. Other possible activities include cooking for elders, working in an Indian church, painting, visiting the Tribal College, working in the community center, examining the beliefs of the Native American culture and furthering the reconciliation ministry that Hope for the First Nations has been doing for 14 years. Flexibility, openness and a heart for a different cultures is a necessity. www.hopeforthefirstnations.org

Northpointe Christian Church is a one-year old church that meets in a movie theater in a Lincoln, Rhode Island mall. With attendance nearing the 200 mark, Northpointe recently began a second Sunday morning gathering and holds small group meetings throughout the week. They work hard to be an active influence in their community. The students on this trip will work with the Sunday morning gathering, weekly community groups, a local West African church and a new South Providence church plant (with a yet to be determined birth date).

Students on this trip will spend their week in Boston. You will live in the city. You will use public transportation and work with a young church called Reunion.

Students on this trip will work with Rockingham Christian Church as they prepare for their annual community Easter Egg hunt and other events leading up to their Easter celebration.

Students on this trip will be working with LCU Alum Jared Cowgur and the staff at EastPointe Christian Church in the Portland, Maine area. Opening in 2004, EastPointe currently worships in an old warehouse building. They regularly have over 200 in Sunday morning attendance and have a vibrant youth ministry. Participants will be actively involved in the youth ministry of the church.

Survivor Nicaragua: Take 2. The trip will include evangelistic outreaches in several locations in the city of Granada. These outreaches will include singing, sharing testimonies and the gospel message. They will end with handing out rice for each person present as well as candy for the youth. It will also include meeting with pastors and delivering Bibles and tracts in five different states in Nicaragua. These deliveries will aid in a nationwide pastors conference being held by Way of the Cross Ministries the week after Easter. We will also have a day of relaxation at San Jaun Del Sur (the place where survivor is being filmed).

Ninos de Mexico is a good place to experience missions in a relatively safe environment. The trip is from O'Hare Chicago to Mexico City, and the personnel from Ninos pick us up a the airport and take us to their compound. The accommodations are simple but clean. Tile floors in dorm-type rooms with hot showers. The food has a Mexican flair, and is prepared mostly by Anglos who understand what U.S. college students like to eat. Our work week is well planned, with a mixture of work and tours of Mexico City (one day) and a special trip to the Pyramids. The projects include whatever Ninos needs. In the past, that's meant painting, rock moving, improving the landscape, and building maintenance. The trip includes time spent with children and teenagers who live at Ninos. These children are orphans or wards of the state. This trip is safe because the compound is enclosed, and we will spend only one day outside the safe location.

Youth Ministry (YM) Cultural Exegesis. Selected YM majors and Rondel will be traveling throughout the Upper Midwest (Michigan, Chicagoland, Wisconsin) exploring how churches do youth ministry in different locations and contexts (inner city, suburban, rural). It is a trip that seeks to observe, critique, evaluate, and serve at each location. Our host youth ministers will challenge us in a particular area that is vital for Kingdom leader development including: Ministry Conflict, Middle School Ministry, Creative Programming, Staff Development, Ministry to the Streets etc). Part of the experience will include pre-WOE reading in preparation and discussion articles while we drive, as well as some crazy free time antics. [This trip can be taken for credit as an YM elective (YM399 Special Issues for YM - credit fees apply). There is a prerequisite of two YM courses: YM211 and either YM325 or YM327. Additional work is required.] Space is limited to 10 youth ministry majors.

House of Faith (H of F), in San Angelo, TX, is an interdenominational ministry for at-risk kids from third grade through high school. The ministry was begun as an after-school Bible study in one back yard in a neighborhood of largely unchurched families with kids who are at risk for drug use, for dropping out of school and for crime. We will have the privilege of mixing with the kids on bus rides and at their H of F activities, helping with the teaching, crafts, games, and possibly with music, as well as going on prayer walks, and perhaps helping with physical labor in the neighborhood or at H of F if there is a need. H of F has a great facility (the Warehouse) equipped with a large gathering room, lots of video games, a kitchen and dining facility, and outdoor game spaces. On Sunday nights about 180 teenagers come to the Refuge program in the Warehouse to hang-out, play games and have a meal. There are also programs in the Warehouse for junior high school kids. If you love kids and have a heart for evangelism, this would be a great trip for you.

This trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico will be a life-changing experience! We will work with the church and an English speaking Christian school (Pre-K - 6 grade) in the following ways: individually plan and teach VBS Bible lessons and activities in an assigned classroom for three days; as a group, lead songs, review Bible lessons and verses in the school chapel; plan and implement children's activities for the Sunday morning worship and revival meetings. If you have experience in teaching, love children and have a heart for people of other cultures, then this is the trip for you.

We'll help by teaching in public schools in the area of religious education (RE) in Nottingham. Our students will have a chance to share their faith and learn about the faiths (or lack thereof) of others. Second, we'll help CMF missionaries David and Teresa Fittro in their outreach to the teens of Nottingham. After school programs, local community clubs and house church activities will all be performed. Other ministry will take place as the opportunity/need arises so flexibility is key.

A trip to St. Louis, MO that will have the dual purpose. We will be working with World Impact, a ministry to "at risk" youth in the inner city neighborhoods of North St. Louis. We will also be working a Christian group that works with recent U.S. immigrants from various nations around the world.

We will be working with Staten Island Church of Christ; holding a mini-revival meeting Sunday-Tuesday evenings, communion service on Thursday evening, visiting a mission in Manhattan and churches in the area, and handing out flyers in the community to advertise the mini-revival. It would be helpful to play an instrument and sing because the group will be leading a time of worship for the revival. There is also a need for evangelistic students who are willing to talk to people in the community. As part of this trip the group will visit Ground Zero.

Sometimes it's easy to overlook the poverty right next door. This week will bring us face-to-face with this poverty and help us find the best way to help. We'll connect with various organizations in Springfield to do whatever work they give us. Jobs could include yard work, cleaning, getting apartments ready, and serving food to the homeless, as well as unforeseen opportunities to serve. This week will involve a lot of physical labor with results we can see. It will also involve opening our hearts to a new vision of homelessness. Evenings will be spent together as a group with either planned activities or free time.

This Week of E3 experience will center on spiritual formation. The context of the experience will be the worship of the Church during Holy Week. While participating in daily worship services, we will read from the writings of Catherine of Siena as a meditation on Christ's passion and the way we only find our true selves through the love of God. We will also express, by journaling and artwork, the intellectual and emotional insights we gain through this meditation. This Week of E3 trip will take place on the LCU campus.

This Week of E3 trip will help ready Rock River Christian Camp for the camping season. We will be painting cabins, moving cut wood, and cleaning buildings. This is a labor-intensive trip that will leave you with a sense of great accomplishment.
