As a Seminary student, Fred Johnson declined to tutor Greek students – he had no desire to teach. Asked again the next year, he gave it a try and loved it! Affectionately known as “Freddy J,” Dr. Fred Johnson, Professor of New Testament, has now cherished being a part of the LCU family for over 30 years. He is appreciative of his servant leader colleagues and loves that “we bathe everything we do in prayer, asking God to help us serve every student with excellence.” He and his wife Kathy have two daughters – each married to a preacher.
“The distinctive mission of Christians who engage in the study of hermeneutics is to raise questions about how to study the Bible responsibly and faithfully, not to denigrate the Scriptures, but in order to make the Scriptures articulate, inviting, and livable. As we probe Scripture, Scripture probes us informing and transforming us to think and act like Jesus. We long to interpret and live the Scriptures in such a way as to make God in Christ known in a way that is meaningful, true, and compelling.”
