Professor of Philosophy and Christian Apologetics, Dr. Rich Knopp is also the Coordinator for Room For Doubt and Program Director for WorldViewEyes. WorldViewEyes has received over $1 million in grant funds to challenge youth to understand and embrace a Christian worldview. Room For Doubt is a grant-funded program that “seeks to create an atmosphere in which tough questions – even doubts – about the Christian faith can be openly expressed and discussed, without intimidation.” Knopp says that “our culture is in desperate need for well-educated leaders who can explain and defend the Christian faith in clear and compelling ways.” He considers it a privilege to serve at LCU to educate today’s eager learners. Because of his age, some physical injuries and ailments, and his caricatured image as a philosopher, many might be surprised to hear of his storied accomplishments in athletics and on stage – ask him sometime!
“In a sense, my area of philosophy and Christian apologetics is not just one field of study among many. Philosophy is for everyone. It addresses and offers an array of answers to the biggest questions that are relevant to all humanity regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, or personality (i.e., Is there a God? Is there any meaning to life? How should we live?). Christian apologetics is also for everyone. It focuses more on one basic question, 'Why should anyone be or remain committed to a Christian way of life?' I especially love my area of work because I believe that it has something of great value for everyone, even if they are not aware of it.”
