One of Dr. Robert F. Rea’s favorite aspects of being a part of LCU is when he sees the moment of discovery in a student’s eyes. Whether that’s on campus or in the Dominican Republic (where he volunteers as a professor online and in person each semester), Rea loves seeing students focus on Christian spirituality – learning how to surrender to God daily through disciplined encounters with God and with the Scriptures. Besides being a devoted fan of his wife, daughters, and their families, Rea cheers on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals.
“If we hope to know God intimately, to understand the Scriptures accurately, and to minister most effectively, we need to be in fellowship with the whole Church—the Church across cultures, continents, and centuries. Christian history helps us affirm and grow in our Christian identity, practice community and accountability with all of the Christians, expand our horizons to see beyond what we knew existed, and to fill gaps in our theology. Great mentors from the past teach us to understand Scripture and to minister effectively in the present.”Dr. Robert Rea, Professor and Program Director of Church History and Historical Theology
