Jan Rutledge, Professor of Developmental Education, recognizes God’s hand in paving the way for her to come to LCU. Since joining the staff, Rutledge has loved helping students find their own unique ways to become all God has created them to be. She especially cherishes those times when she is able to help students succeed who have encountered considerable challenges. “If I could still do cartwheels when they graduate, I would!” Family fun ranks high on her list of favorite activities, especially when riding her 4-wheeler.
“While still teaching public school, I felt God calling me to complete a master's degree in Educational Guidance and Counseling despite the fact that I probably wouldn't become a school counselor due to some changes by the state. During that time, I did some research projects and presentations on a new approach called ‘Developmental Guidance.’ When my family moved to Lincoln due to my husband's job, God began to unfold His plan. In the Spring of 1987 when I interviewed for my job, I knew that God had been preparing me for five years to be the Academic Resource Center Director, which is basically a developmental guidance office. As I obeyed the call, God had been ahead of me paving the way. What a blessing it's been to work with students also obeying the call to ‘Live your mission.’”Jan Rutledge, Professor of Developmental Education
