Alonzo Price Barnes, LCC ’91-’92, went home to live with his Lord on April 5, 2016, after 95 years of loving service to God, his family, and the community.
Following his military service in the Army Air Corps (WWII), he graduated from Illinois State University and was hired by the Ashton school district, where he was a teacher and principal until he retired. He coached cross-country, was advisor for the school newspaper, yearbook and National Honor Society. He was a Sunday school teacher and elder of the Christian Church. He was a founding member of the board of the Erie facility of Illini Christian Children’s Home, president of the Rock River Christian Men’s Fellowship, forwarding agent for Caribe Christian Mission, and a board member and volunteer worker for Rock River Christian Camp. He served as a trustee of Lincoln Christian University for 16 years between the years of ’69-’86 and taught in ’83-‘84. Price served his community as a Boy Scout leader, American Legion chaplain and member of the Ashton Lion’s Club. He will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by a son, Thomas, and son-in-law, Chuy Ramirez. His wife, Ruth, and children Michael (Barbara), and Jane Ramirez, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive. A memorial service was held at the Beverage-Lyons Funeral home in Ashton on April 9, 2016.
