David (LCS ’78) and Lynn Poling (LCU ’11) have been serving in Hong Kong since 1979 and in Mainland China since 1986.
David is co-founder and president of Chinese Christian Seminary. This is an evening Bible College that trains those a daytime college cannot. Its evening schedule enables it to train deacons, elders and youth leaders as well as those hoping to do full time ministry. Due to its strong academic program, a number of preachers and para-church workers also come for training.
The Polings also work with Lord Leading Christian Church, which shares facilities with the Bible college. This church has supported workers in Mainland China since its inception and has sent out five of its members to minister full-time.
The Peoples’ Republic of China is the third area of the Poling’s ministry and Hong Kong is the launch pad for that ministry. Students from the Bible college in Hong Kong go to China for personal evangelism, to encourage new Christians, and to train leaders. They also work with a leper village and a drug de-tox center. Every weekend, there are Bible college students ministering in China. This involves considerable sacrifices of time and money. Sometimes it results in food poisoning or run-ins with the police. Some have taken jobs in China to facilitate evangelism. Others have resigned their jobs in Hong Kong so they can minister in China full-time. Praise God for these brothers and sisters and their commitment. Pray for their health, safety, and courage — and that there would be thousands more like them.
An exciting, new development in the China ministry has been the creation of a Bible college training program for house church preachers. These brothers and sisters often have absolutely no training and yet are called upon to preach, teach, counsel, and administer churches. This ministry was started at the invitation of a large house church, which also provides classroom space and even feeds the students!
