Alumni Spotlight: Mike and Dawn Maglish

Dawn and Mike Maglish

Mike (’01) and Dawn (99’) Maglish currently live in Star, Idaho.

Mike has been the Senior High Youth Minister at Eagle Christian Church for the last five and half years. They have two children, Sam, 12, and Abbie, 10. Here is Dawn’s story…

When Dawn decided to go to cosmetology school, she knew that she wanted it to be in concordance with her life verse, Colossians 3:23. She said, “I wanted it to be for a purpose in God’s plan for my life.” She heard about human trafficking years beforehand and dreamed about doing something to help. While going to cosmetology school, Dawn developed a plan God laid on her heart for a non-profit hair salon.

Insideout Salon

In a few short years this plan became a reality. INsideOUT, Dawn’s non-profit salon located in Eagle, ID, offers affordable hair services to the community and donates its net-proceeds to Destiny Rescue and other organizations who are committed to freeing children from sex trafficking. In addition, INsideOUT sponsors individual children who were freed through those organizations.

Dawn states, “Because of INsideOUT, over 500 clients in Idaho’s Treasure Valley have heard about human trafficking and the work God is doing through the salon. Our clients and local churches in the area have committed to contributing toward ending trafficking in Cambodia, Thailand, and other countries around the world. We can do this by offering people affordable quality services that they deserve, and letting them know their money will help so many people. We want people to walk away from our salon feeling like they can take care of a need they have while also giving to the world…feeling good from the INsideOUT.”

In Cambodia and Thailand
Dawn took INsideOUT to Cambodia and Thailand in 2011

In the summer of 2014, Dawn and her staff plan to travel to Thailand to work in conjunction with Destiny Rescue and train women rescued from sex trafficking in the vocation of hair styling.

INsideOUT plans to continue work throughout the U.S., by opening salons where God leads.  INsideOUT is currently helping open a salon in the Peoria, Illinois, area with business partner Christine McDermet.

Dawn smiles and says, “ We are not just a hair salon. We are a part of change. INsideOUT’s goal is to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the U.S. and world.”
