Stuart A. Couve (LBI ’61 BA)

Pastor Stuart Allen Couve, 84, of Peoria, IL and formerly of Washington, IL died at 8:45pm, Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on June 1937 in Kewanee, IL to Lawrence Duncan and F. Geraldine Cole Couve, he married Linda Lee (Barnhouse) Henry on December 21, 1963 in Lincoln, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his children; Donald (Tammy) Couve of Elmwood, IL, John (Adrianne) Couve of Peoria, IL and Miriam (Greg) Pendleton of Guyton, GA, 9 grandchildren; Donnie (Melody) Couve, Justin Couve, Ashley Couve, Tonya Robertson, Jackie DeWitt, Briana (Dustin) Wikoff, Blaine Couve, Micah Couve and Delaney Pendleton; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret “Meg” Brazil.

Pastor Couve served as a minister in various churches for 50 years, including: Havana Christian Church in Havana, IL, Christview Christian Church in St. Charles, MO, South Telegraph Christian Church in South St. Louis, MO, Christian Illinois Evangelist Association (C.I.E.A.) in Pekin, IL, Lincoln Christian Church in Lincoln, IL, and Broadway Christian Church in Lexington, KY, where he retired in 2007. He was a dedicated blood donor, giving 27 gallons over the years. He served as Red Cross Chairman in Logan County, IL, and enjoyed being a Rotarian in various communities in which he served.

A celebration of Pastor Couve’s life will be at 3pm, Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Highview Christian Church in Washington, IL. Pastor Chris Wright will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Kewanee, IL at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Highview Christian Church in Washington, IL or Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, IL.
