SENIOR PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
CHURCH OF CHRIST AT MANOR WOODS
The Senior Pastor, with Elder support, oversees the life and direction of the church, with a firm grasp on its Biblically-based purpose, values and structure; establishes and oversees the implementation of strategic programs and initiatives in accordance with its vision; aligns volunteers, staff and key leadership teams with its mission; provides spiritual and pastoral leadership; and communicates the Gospel message to the congregation and surrounding community, winning people for Christ. The Senior Pastor is expected to be an inspiring and challenging preacher and teacher, dedicated to discipleship, passionate about reaching and
connecting with our uniquely diverse congregation, should be prayerful, wise, faithful, steadfast, outgoing, honest and trustworthy, continually learning and growing personally and professionally, and exhibit the fruits of the Spirit in his life.
Oversees the direction of the church, working with the Elders, staff and other ministry leaders to cast vision and develop and implement the strategic plans necessary to achieve that vision.
Serves as the face of the church to members, guests, and the surrounding community.
Prepares and delivers a sermon each week during Sunday worship services that is rooted in Biblical truth and the Gospel message, relates that truth to everyday life and to people of diverse ages and backgrounds, and motivates the congregation to live as true disciples of Jesus Christ. Works closely with the Worship & Music Minister to coordinate sermons, worship service
themes, worship elements, and special areas of emphasis.
Provides leadership to the staff in the design and implementation of all church ministries. Determines direction, eliminates distractions, and sets priorities. Maintains efficient and effective lines of communication between the staff, Elders, and other ministry leaders. Works with the staff to set goals and expectations, provides ongoing informal feedback, and conducts
periodic performance evaluations. Makes decisions, generates ideas, provides guidance, encouragement and accountability, mediates disagreements, and helps solve problems.
Oversees the needs of the congregation, providing encouragement, counseling, instruction, and visitation as appropriate, assisted by other staff, Elders, and volunteers. Plans and conducts weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other key events in the life of the congregation consistent
with Biblical teachings.
Participates in efforts and special events to reach out to and serve the community, follows up with guests, and encourages baptism, membership and engagement. Sustains and nurtures relationships with the missions and church plants that the congregation supports.
