Dewey Community Church is a small-town, rural congregation with a Sunday worship attendance of 125. Our members generally live and attend school in nearby Fisher. Although we live in an agricultural community, our members have a wide range of ages and occupations, with nearby Champaign–Urbana offering many opportunities for employment and recreation.
Our junior- and senior-high youth ministry draws 20 students from the church and community, and the number of young families in our congregation has been growing steadily, with our Awana program currently drawing 60 students. Other youth programs include Bible quizzing (grades 7–12) and a basketball ministry (grades 1–6; 100 players and 20 staff).
We belong to the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches and subscribe to its statement of faith.
Our desired candidate is firmly rooted in his relationship with Jesus Christ, as shown by his godly character and practice of spiritual disciplines, and will cause that relationship to bear fruit by actively connecting with young people to mentor them as disciples of Jesus Christ. He will use his growing knowledge of the Bible to teach the Scriptures, helping youth and the congregation as a whole apply biblical truths to their life.
We seek a self-starter who will work with volunteer youth sponsors to plan, develop, implement, and promote comprehensive ministries that create opportunities for worship, fellowship, discipleship, service, and evangelism, stimulating an intense desire among the youth to participate as members of the congregation. He will build relationships in our church, community, and schools, informally and in collaboration with other Christian ministries in the FEC and locally, and will oversee DCC’s Christian education ministries, including Sunday schools and VBS.
Previous youth ministry experience is required, professionally or as a volunteer, but formal training in Bible and youth ministry, though welcomed, is not mandatory.
