Emmanuel Baptist Church
SENIOR PASTOR
Overland Park, Kansas www.emmanuelopks.org
At Emmanuel, our mission is to engage the next generation with transforming gospel truth. Strategically positioned in the Kansas City metropolitan area, the church exists to provide our community a worship venue where God’s redemptive message is clearly presented and lives can be transformed. In an era where people are often labeled and engaged by life stage, we seek to be a multi- generational church where individuals in all phases of life can learn from one another, build friendships, and grow spiritually as we passionately worship God, develop meaningful connections, progress in faith and knowledge, and live out and share Christ’s redemptive message.
We are a congregation desiring to minister to more people within our changing and diversifying geographical area. Our goal is to be a multi-generational church that is reflective of the surrounding community. We are seeking to expand our ministry reach beyond the approximately 310 adults and 55 youth/children (with an average Sunday morning worship attendance of 250) that currently comprises our fellowship. We are looking for a senior pastor who can provide the strategic focus necessary to diversify and expand our impact. Emmanuel enjoys an easily accessible location, ample facilities, a ministerial budget of approximately $1,000,000, capable lay servant leaders, and a dedicated full-time ministerial staff of five persons making this opportunity an attractive ministry field for interested candidates. Emmanuel is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and its theological beliefs align with the Baptist Faith and Message as approved on June 14, 2000.
Pastor David McAlpin effectively led the church for more than five years before a health condition precipitated his retirement. Emmanuel is seeking a senior pastor who, first and foremost, loves Jesus and is a servant of character and integrity, and should be honest and trustworthy, modeling an authentic Christian life. As the teaching pastor, we are seeking a candidate whose primary gift is clearly communicating the truth of God’s word in a relatable and encouraging way that connects with a broad range of attendees. The message should be uncompromising on Christian essentials, while translating God’s truth into practical application that promotes life change. Finally, the successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills. We desire a senior pastor who can set an inspiring shared vision for the future and work alongside high-capacity staff and lay leaders to set ministry objectives, assess progress, and make necessary adjustments that will move us towards our desired strategic goals.
As senior pastor, the successful candidate will serve as the church’s chief executive officer, and ideally, will possess a Seminary degree, preferably a Master of Divinity or Master of Theology. Beyond education, the successful candidate will likely have at least 5 years of church leadership experience, and will be theologically aligned with the church as described above.
Emmanuel recently celebrated its 55th year of ministry. For more than half a century, Emmanuel has birthed new churches, sent missionaries to unreached people groups, and engaged in missions work across the world, including closed countries. We also share our facility with a sister Korean language congregation.
Given its proximity to major transportation arteries in the region, attendees span the southern metropolitan area. The most beautiful aspect of the church is its people. Its membership spans a cross-section of age, race, ethnicity, socio- economic, and religious backgrounds. Members are united by the work of Jesus
Christ in their lives and by a commitment to passionately love God individually and together, to be a soul-nourishing, understanding, and multigenerational community, to progressively walk in Christlikeness, and to profoundly influence others by meeting needs and making Jesus known to our neighbors and the nations.
