Meet First Baptist Church Elkhart:
First Baptist Church was founded in downtown Elkhart in 1860 with a small group of believers. After several years at their first location, they moved to a location south of downtown. Today, FBC Elkhart is located on 40 acres of land on the northeast side of Elkhart and occupies an 85,000 sq ft facility.
FBC Elkhart is very evangelistic, and outreach-oriented in its approach to the community, and exists to glorify God by equipping believers to love God, love people, and influence the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They have two contemporary services on Sunday morning which are both offered through live stream each week. Currently averaging 1100 attendees between both services, their mission continues to be “Worship, Walk & Work”.
About the Student Pastor:
The Student Pastor of FBC Elkhart will oversee all areas of the Student Ministry at First Baptist Church and provide vision and strategic direction to the Student Ministry while working with a group of volunteers to implement this vision.
This individual will be passionate about building relationships with students while challenging them to grow deeper in their walk with Jesus Christ. The Student Pastor will cast, promote, execute, and fulfill the Mission statement of the church specifically through ministry to the students of First Baptist Church.
The Student Pastor Responsibilities Include:
Serves the Student Ministry
Provide leadership, direction, and vision for the student ministry staff, programming, and events.
Recruit, train, equip, and coordinate volunteer leaders for spiritual formation, care groups, worship gatherings, activities, and events.
Provide a safe, fun, creative, engaging, and dynamic environment for students.
Exhibit a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and healthy family life.
Create and execute a long-term vision for the FBC Student Ministry.
Gifted and is called to Student Ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level.
An engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background, who agrees with FBC’s vision and mission statements and statement of faith.
Self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, and possesses relational skills with students, parents, and staff.
Spend time on Christian and public-school campuses for lunch, athletics, Bible studies, etc.
Serves the Pastoral Team
Provides leadership to the pastoral team with oversight of all ministry plans of the church.
Has direct leadership of Adult Discipleship Pastor, Worship Pastor, and Youth Pastor.
Establishes ministry goals and objectives and evaluates their progress.
Provides oversight of ministry budgets.
Leads the Ministry Staff meetings.
Serves the Support Staff
Communicates and advocates for the needs of the student program to other staff and church leaders.
Serves the Congregation
Seeks to integrate Student Ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other ministries within the church.
What You Bring:
Education & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree. (preferred in ministry area)
Preferred three to five years of experience in leading a student program in a church of comparable size.
Personal Characteristics & Qualifications
Expected to live an exemplary life, modeling the call, character, and competencies of a follower of Jesus Christ.
Expected to be involved in the overall life of the church body by actively participating in Life Groups and other ministry-wide events and functions.
Lead and organize effective student programs, implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.
Have a strong computer (Mac and Apple Software) and administrative skills for handling emails, coordinating events, organizing, brainstorming, and managing a budget.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues and able to handle complaints and problems with tact, patience, and diplomacy.
Demonstrate a flexible and willing spirit to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Committed to excellence in the development, implementation, and execution of student ministry.
Expected to assist in the Counseling Ministry of FBC with a primary focus on student ministry.
Expected to provide leadership and vision to the spiritual formation of all students at Elkhart Christian Academy.
Working knowledge in leading worship (vocal, instrumental) and production. (audio, visual)
Is a passionate, dedicated, and contributing member of the Pastoral Staff Team.
Participate as needed or requested in the development and implementation of the overall church ministry.
