We are an independent, New Testament Church of Christ (Christian) in Oxford, Indiana, modeling the Restoration Movement. We are looking to hire a pastor to lead and help us grow our church. We would like them to be full-time but would consider part-time or interim as well. In addition to Sunday preaching, we are looking for help and guidance in restarting our youth program. There is a three-bedroom parsonage next to the church if needed.
We believe in baptism by immersion. Communion is celebrated weekly. Adult and childrens’ Bible School is held weekly. The adult class is currently led by an elder.
Historically we have had a Wednesday night JAM (Jesus and Me) community youth program in correlation with the public school calendar. That was suspended with the onset of Covid in 2020. As yet, the program has not been restarted. Our weekly attendance is 30-40. We are mostly an older group with a couple of younger families. We regularly have 3 preschool children and 3-5 Jr/Sr high students.
Our desire is to reach the “unchurched” of the area. We have a traditional worship service. We are not opposed to contemporary service, but we do not currently have the talent. Thirty to forty years ago we averaged 60-70 in attendance. Of course, we would
like to begin to grow again.
Oxford has a population of 1,100 and is located in northwest Indiana about 25 miles from West Lafayette (Purdue). There are 3 churches in addition to the Church of Christ: St. Patrick Catholic, Oxford United Methodist, and Oxford Federated Church. All are struggling with attendance. The elementary and Jr/Sr High School are 3 miles from town.
