POSITION SUMMARY

The Residence Hall Director serves as an important member of the Student Development team. The Residence Hall Director implements the Student Development mission and program plan through the oversight of the comprehensive living and learning environment in the residence hall. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Student Development and abides by the expectations and responsibilities listed in the job description.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Personal Expectations

Being a member of the Student Development staff requires flexibility, patience, and passion, as well as an incredibly high level of personal integrity. To sustain one’s self and be effective in the role, the Residence Hall Director must continually and actively pursue personal well-being through a variety of sources.

  • Maintain personal spiritual disciplines, including prayer, Scripture reading, and church attendance
  • Be a role model by living a mature, Christian lifestyle and seeking to continually grow in Christ
  • Handle mistakes directly and promptly with utmost integrity
  1. Administrative Responsibilities

Thorough administration is required for the Residence Hall Director position. The Student Development team requires accurate and timely information and relies on team members to provide this information. Good administration will also ultimately serve students by providing them the best services available.

  • Oversee Student Resident Assistant (RA) staff
  • Process housing assignments and key distribution
  • Respond to requests for roommate changes or single rooms as needed
  • Communicate with the Fiscal Services Office and the Student Development Office regularly concerning issues relative to student accounts and census
  • Hold area meetings as assigned/appropriate
  • Perform regular inspection of residence hall with RAs
  • Report short term and long term maintenance and technology issues to Facilities Services and Campus Technology
  • Perform check in/check out inspections and assess appropriate damage fines
  • Assist with summer camps by:
    • Communicate with Campus Event Coordinator to know names and dates of various summer events
    • Communicate with camp coordinator(s) the rooms and sets of furniture available for use during their session
    • Coordinator with Custodial Services Department on which floors will be used during camp weeks
    • Be available during camps to assist in communicating with camp coordinators and Custodial Services Department
  1. Professional Expectations

The Residence Hall Director lives among LCU students and shares life in a way that many other university employees do not. Still, the Residence Hall Director serves in a professional capacity and must reflect the professional expectations of the department.

  • Maintain availability to residents on a professional level, including regularly scheduled and posted office hours
  • Maintain casual availability through regular social interactions with residents, as well as checking voicemail, e-mail, and mail daily
  • Meet on a regular basis with supervisor
  • Submit reports and other assigned materials as directed
  • Attend team meetings as scheduled, being both on-time and engaged in meetings
  • Attend campus employee meetings and trainings as scheduled
  1. Community Expectations

All of our living areas support the educational mission of LCU, and community programs help to support the overall learning experience at LCU. The Residence Hall Director works to foster a lively, engaged community of learners in the residence hall.

  • Provide a personal, warm, and generous welcome to new residents
  • Create programs that support planned Student Development Department Objectives:
  • Cultivate healthy community
  • Exhibit a maturing spiritual life
  • Grow in vocational self-awareness
  • Grow in personal self-awareness
  • Persist to graduation
  • Develop and utilize a plan for regular communication with residents to make them aware of campus news, events, and updates
  • Manage compliance with state and federal law as well as any insurance requirements
  • Enforce the Student Handbook as it relates to residential life
  • Process and maintain records related to various issues with residents
  1. Other Duties as Assigned

As with every role on campus, there are other duties that may be asked of the Residence Hall Director at times during the school year. While the following list is not comprehensive, it does include some other duties that can be expected throughout the year.

  • Assist with campus move-in during Life@LCU
  • Serve on campus committees as requested by the Vice President of Student Development
  • Stay up to date on university emergency procedures and be prepared to respond to emergency events
  1. Accept as true LCU’s Statement of Faith and support LCU’s mission, vision, core values, and philosophy of education
  2. Adhere to all University policies faithfully including the Employee Handbook and live “above reproach”
  3. Participate in the spiritual life of campus (including employee fall retreat with worship service and chapel attendance)
  4. Encouraged to lead spiritual events and engage in mentoring students
  5. Attend campus employee meetings as scheduled

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer skills with word processing, database administration, and brochure and flier publication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with different internal and external constituencies and demographics for relating successfully and representing LCU effectively
  • Good indirect personal skills for use with telephone, email, and other mediums
  • Administrative skills for collecting data, organizing information, and generating reports
  • Self-starter with initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to model servant leadership

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: High School diploma required, Bachelor degree preferred

Experience: Office work and residence life/student services experience preferred

Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
