Position Objective: To empower SUMC attendees to serve Christ in areas of music and worship arts thereby creating an environment where this can occur. Draw people into worshipping God through the careful selection of music and lyrics. The Director of Worship is responsible for the flow of service, both live and online, and prepares the congregation to hear God’s Word as spoken through the Pastor.
Position Description: The Director of Worship will be the “producer” of each Sunday morning worship service and special services. Although the senior pastor is the “director” in terms of setting the theme and overall direction of the service, the Director of Worship will oversee and coordinate all the details that a service encompasses. The Director of Worship must be a visionary who is creative in leading people to God. Someone who is SOLD OUT FOR JESUS! This person is a leader who is great with communication both verbal and written in a way that inspires those around him/her to join in the pursuit of that vision. Someone with great listening skills. This position is one that requires the individual to serve not solely as a musical or performing arts director but also as a shepherd to the people who serve in this ministry.
This position is a Part-Time position.
Essential Responsibilities: Music, Media, and Worship
Meet regularly with the senior pastor to plan and discuss the Sunday services and future planning.
Lead all aspects of planning and delivery of the Sunday morning worship service(s) and help ensure that it flows seamlessly.
Get to know who we are as a church and our community.
Develop and manage the budgets for music, media booth and the worship team.
Organize and lead musical practices in preparation for worship services or special events.
Develop and coordinate teams of instrumentalists, vocalists, audio/visual techs, and camera operators.
Work with the media booth to recruit and develop new team members for the worship, audio/visual, and camera teams.
Oversee the musical instruments and their maintenance.
Work with the media booth to make sure the computers, sound and video equipment, and camera equipment used in worship are functioning and updated.
Oversee sound/video/light/livestream/virtual ministry. Meet with head audio tech and producers to improve sound and visual quality of live and online services.
Plan lighting design for worship services in collaboration with media booth team
Serve as a musical resource for youth and young adult ministries.
Hold regular office hours during the week and participate in all meetings pertaining to responsibilities as a staff member.
Collaborate with pastoral staff to discuss and develop material for social media and creative team needs.
Work with the Office Administrator to schedule upcoming events at the church .i.e. weddings, funerals, etc…
Supervision: The Director of Worship reports directly to the Lead Pastor and is accountable to the Staff-Parish Team.
Hours: 24-28 hours per week
Hourly rate: $18-$20 per hour
