JOB TITLE: Director of Children’s Ministries
JOB STATUS: Part-time, (including benefits and vacation)
REPORTING: Position reports to Directing Pastor and will serve on the Children’s Ministries and Leadership Teams.
OVERVIEW: To offer the children (newborn through 5th grade) of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church creative and effective programs, curriculum opportunities, and experiences to meet their spiritual, social, and relational needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop, coordinate, and supervise all Children’s Sunday School, as well as Children’s programs of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
2. Review, evaluate, and recommend curriculum for Children’s Sunday School and Summer Learning programs with emphasis on the use of United Methodist materials. Materials other than United Methodist may be used with the consent of the pastor.
3. Train and support leaders involved in Children’s Ministries. This includes Safe Sanctuary training.
4. Review and evaluate the Children’s programs emphasis and ensure a balance of mission, service, Bible study, community outreach, and fun.
5. Work and coordinate with Nursery Coordinator regarding children’s needs.
6. Monitor and assess the needs of the Children’s Leaders, Sunday School Teachers, VBS Leaders, and the Nursery Coordinator; and help obtain equipment, supplies, and resources as needed.
7. Complete administrative tasks including but not limited to attending staff and team meetings, writing newsletter articles, and emailing communications in a timely manner.
8. Under supervision of the Directing Pastor, attend relevant church paid seminars and continuing education for this position.
9. Serve under the conditions of the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church Personnel Policy and specific issues determined by the Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by Directing Pastor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Christian having a good understanding of the Bible and Jesus’ teachings, and a heart for children.
2. Thorough understanding of children’s education methods and techniques; using effective communication skills relating to children, parents, teachers, leaders, and volunteers.
3. Proficiency in organizational, leadership, and ministry management skills.
4. Ability to work effectively and efficiently, both individually and in a team environment.
5. Maintain high standards, strict confidentiality, and safe sanctuary policies.
6. Possess valid Driver’s License, and pass a criminal background check.
7. General knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media (Facebook, Instagram, texting).
8. Outreach and community involvement with a willingness to network with other churches and organizations.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in children’s ministries or related field.
