LCU hosts Regional Women’s Basketball Tip-Off

Women's basketball 2013

On Friday and Saturday, December 6-7, 2013, LCU will host the NCCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tip-Off tournament for women’s basketball at the Laughlin Center Gaston Gymnasium. Games begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Six teams will compete this weekend for improved seeding at the season-ending NCCAA Division II Regional Championship in February, 2014. The Red Lions welcome Grace Bible College, Kuyper College, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Moody Bible Institute, and Northland International University.

“I’m really excited about how our team is progressing this year,” said head coach, Amanda Bowman, “We are returning our two leading scorers from last year, along with two other starters. Freshmen newcomers will add talent to the returners from last season.”

The 12-member Red Lions team will also showcase the size and athleticism of several players who competed in the NCCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament last month.

“Once we are able to get some time in the gym and build our chemistry, we should be a contender for the NCCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship,” Bowman added.

Tip-off competitions allow regional opponents to meet at a single location and play at least two games toward their regional record which is used to determine seeding for the championship tournament. The Red Lions are looking forward to the opportunity.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Red Lions Athletic Office at 217.732.3168, ext 2245, or click here for the LCU Athletics website.
