LCU Volleyball Finishes Final Four as Hosts of National Tournament

Volleyball 2013

The Lincoln Christian University volleyball team gave a strong performance at the 2013 NCCAA Div. II National Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament held in Lincoln November 14-16. The Red Lions started the tournament as the number-three seed in pool play, finishing undefeated at the top of their pool, but fell short of their goal of a another national title.  Pool play consisted of two games Thursday, November 11, and two more on Friday, November 12. They won all four games, while losing only one set to Clearwater Christian College.

With enthusiastic support from the home crowd, LCU was in command of the weekend until Saturday’s semifinal match against the number eight seed Ozark Christian College. Ozark reached the tournament through an at-large bid and surprised top seeded Kentucky Christian College in pool play the day before with a stunning 3-1 defeat. The Red Lions suffered a similar fate in the semi-final match, as they fought hard but failed to get the best of Ozark. Going 25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, each set was competitive and hotly contested through the final points.

In addition to adding another Final Four appearance to their storied post-season history, a number of Lincoln Christian University volleyball players made the All-Tournament team and received recognition on the NCCAA Div. II All-American squads. Senior Hannah Taylor was named to both the All-tournament Team and the NCCAA All-American first team, with junior libero, Emma Donnelly joining her on the All-American first team. Junior hitter Alicia Carson was named to the All-American team as an alternate, and was recognized with one of the tournament’s two Most Outstanding Player awards.
