LCU Women End Season Against Grace

Women's basketball 2013

The Lincoln Christian University (LCU) women’s basketball team traveled to Chicago, IL, for their Mid-West Regional Tournament on Friday, February 22, 2013. LCU (9-13) was seeded number five in the tournament, pitting them against Grace Bible College (GBC), the number four seed for the first round.  GBC (14-14) beat LCU twice in the regular season and this game proved to be no surprise as GBC beat LCU, 56-47.

It was another tough shooting night for LCU as they were held to shooting 38% on 21-55 from the floor. Additionally, LCU hit only two of nine three-point attempts, which is usually one of their strengths. A big difference in the game was at the free-throw line.  GBC got to the line 17 times, hitting 14 of their attempts, while LCU only went 3-5 from the line for the game. GBC won the rebounding battle by a slim margin of 40-35, including seven offensive rebounds. LCU committed 17 turnovers, which seemed to be a constant problem for the team throughout the season.

LCU was led in scoring by junior guard Moriah Kirkpatrick (Mt. Vernon, IL/Mt. Vernon Township) who had 14 points on 7-13 shooting.  Kirkpatrick also grabbed six rebounds. Freshman guard Tesia Snow (Greenville, IL/Bond County High) chipped in with 13 points of her own on 6-15 shooting, while grabbing seven rebounds. GBC was led in scoring by freshmen Abby Schultz (Holland, MI) and Amy Leszinske (Ravenna, MI) who had 13 points apiece.

With this final loss against Grace Bible College, the Red Lions women’s basketball team have completed their season with a 9-13 record.
