Owen enters Hall of Fame November 4

Lincoln Christian University (LCU) is pleased to announce the upcoming induction of Christen Owen (O’Malley) into the LCU Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place during the Red Lions’ final home volleyball match of the season on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 .

Owen played volleyball at LCU from 2001-2004 and was an immediate standout who contributed on both offense and defense. She was named to the All-Region Team each season she played. She is currently 5th all-time in both digs and kills, the top name occurring on both lists. In both her junior and senior year she was named the NCCAA national Player of the Year, the first LCU player to receive the honor and the only one to receive it twice.

She was team captain in her final two years and led the team to back-to-back appearances in the national championship game, winning it all in 2003 with a runner-up finish in 2004. Her national championship team from 2003 was inducted two years ago. Owen will be the first individual inducted from that team.

Owen graduated in 2005 with a degree in intercultural studies. She was married nearly a year before, in the summer of 2004 to Brad, who is also a graduate of LCU. They currently live in Springfield where Brad is the youth minister at Lakeside Christian Church.  Christen works at home raising their three children.

Owen’s induction will include a commemorative plaque detailing her achievements in volleyball at LCU and special recognition during the game.
