The Lincoln Christian University Red Lions volleyball team traveled to Gary, IN, on Saturday, September 14, 2013, for a tri-match hosted by Indiana University – Northwest (IU-NW). It was a great day for LCU (10-2) who ran away with the tri-match, beating IU-NW 3-0 and Mt. Mary College (MMC) 3-0.
In the first match against IU-NW (1-17), LCU won the three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-11. Playing without All-American outside hitter Alicia Carson (Gobles, MI/Bloomingdale High), LCU was able to plow ahead as other players stepped up in Carson’s absence. Senior Emily Sheley (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln Community High) led the team with eight kills and junior libero Emma Donnelly (Clinton, IL/Clinton High) led the team with 19 digs.
In the second match against MMC, LCU dominated even more, as they won their three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-5. Freshman Erin Taylor (Noble, IL/West Richland High) led the way for LCU with eight kills. Senior setter Hannah Taylor (Mishawaka, IN/Jimtown High) led the way in assists with 31 for the match.
