What should I bring with me to LCU?
Students should bring appropriate clothing: socks, underwear, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, formal wear, sweaters, jackets, winter coat, gloves, hat, and scarf. Students should bring appropriate shoes: sandals, shoes, dress shoes, boots. Click here for a more complete list.
When should I arrive at LCU?
Students should arrive at LCU at least three days prior to the beginning of the semester.
Do I need to submit health records?
Students will be sent a health form. This should be submitted before arrival in the U.S.
How do I arrange an airport pick-up?
Arranging an airport pick-up can be done by emailing the International Student Office two weeks in advance.
Does LCU have an orientation for international students?
Lincoln Christian University is in the process of developing and implementing a special orientation for International Students in an attempt to help facilitate any questions that might arise and provide them with additional information regarding the surrounding area and Lincoln Christian University.
Are international students allowed to work on campus?
Yes, but they must first speak with the International Student Office to learn the appropriate steps that need to be taken.
What kind of employment opportunities do I have off-campus?
A student visa limits international students’ eligibility to work off-campus. International students found working off-campus can put their F-1 student status in jeopardy.
How can I find on-campus employment opportunities?
- Check job availability list online.
- Determine which job (or jobs) would be best for you and your abilities.
- Print a student employment application, which can be found on the student employment Web page.
- Fill out the application and be sure to get permission from the faculty reference before writing their name down.
- Submit the completed application the Student Services Office.
- Contact the job supervisor(s) to let them know who you are, and that you are interested in the position they have posted.
If you do not have a United States issued Social Security Number, you will need to obtain one before you begin work. Please check with the International Student Office on how to start this process.
Can I open a bank account? How?
Yes, the international Student Office can assist you with opening a bank account. You will need to bring:
- $20 (minimum to open a savings account)
- $50 (minimum to open a checking account)
- A valid passport
- A valid school ID
- Your Social Security card (if you have one)
- If possible, an article of mail stating your current U.S. address
Where do I go during extended break periods?
During short breaks, such as Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Spring Break, students may choose to stay in the residence hall or go with a friend or roommate to their hometown. During the break between the fall and spring semesters, the residence halls close and students typically return to their homes. If the expense of traveling home is prohibitive, students can arrange to stay with a friend or roommate during this time. During summer months, most students return to their homes. Contact the International Student Office for questions regarding the host family program during the summer months.
What type of transportation is available in Lincoln?
If a student needs a ride, they are encouraged to seek out a friend or roommate. They can also contact the International Student Office with a 24-hour notice, and they will find a ride for the student. Other transportation within Lincoln include Amtrak train services (for out-of-town and out-of-state transportation) and American Cab Taxi services (for in-town transportation). You can also use a bicycle to get around town.
