Seminary Lectureship February 27, 2013

On Wednesday, February 27, 2013, Lincoln Christian University will welcome Dr. John D. Witvliet as the featured speaker at the 2013 Seminary Lectureship. Dr. Witvliet is the director of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and professor of music and worship at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary.

The public is invited to hear his lecture series entitled “Biblical Psalms in Christian Worship” which will be presented in the Dowling Auditorium of Restoration Hall, Dr. Witvleit’s presentation schedule will be:

9:30 a.m. – The Biblical Psalms in Christian Worship: Expressive, Formative, Empathetic Prayer

Noon – The Biblical Psalms in Christian Worship: Singing the True Story of the Whole World

2:30 p.m. – The Biblical Psalms in Christian Worship: Singing about Jesus, to Jesus, with Jesus

A graduate of Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary, Witvliet also earned a master’s degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana and master’s and doctoral (PhD) degrees from the University of Notre Dame.  His interests include the history of Christian worship, worship practices in various denominations, the theology of worship, and the role of music and the arts in worship.

The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship organizes 12-14 conferences each year which serve thousands of people from all over the world.

Witvliet has authored or co-authored three books and edited or co-edited more than 10 other publications on worship and theology including Psalms for All Seasons (Faith Alive/Baker, 2012), Walking Where Jesus Walked: Worship in Fourth-Century Jerusalem (Eerdmans, 2010), and Worship Seeking Understanding: Windows into Christian Practice (Baker Academic, 2003).
