At the tender age of 10, a young boy visited Hadrian’s Wall in northern England. Enamored with Rome, he one day became historian Dr. Brian Messner. Knowing that the more a person knows about the ancient world, the better he or she can understand the Bible, Messner desires to teach others about the workings and intricacies of the ancient world, and Rome in particular. Messner wholeheartedly agrees with the Roman orator and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero who said, “Not to know what happened before you were born is always to be a child.”
“One needs to study history to gain a richer and more mature understanding of the development of one’s own culture, and in LCU’s context, to understand better the context of the Old and New Testaments.”
Dr. Brian Messner, Interim Vice President of Academics, Interim Graduate & Seminary Dean, Interim Undergraduate Dean, Professor of History and Interdisciplinary Studies
