Dr. Tyler Stewart is committed to scholarship in service to the church. After years of vocational service to the church, this commitment led him to pursue a PhD in New Testament at Marquette University. His doctoral study was a profoundly ecumenical experience, learning from and with Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, and Jewish scholars and theologians. His educational pursuits have always coincided with located church ministries and he is thankful to be back in Illinois teaching at LCU and participating in a church plant in Champaign-Urbana. Tyler is married with three children and when he’s not spending time with his wife or chasing his kids he likes to read and run.
“It’s a common myth that academic study of the Bible impedes effectiveness in ministry. Throughout my time in seminary, I served in a local church. I found my studies invaluable for the work of ministry. I’ve also found that people in the church are eager for scripture and theology. LCU is a fantastic place for rigorous study in service to the church.”
Dr. Tyler A. Stewart, Associate Professor of New Testament
